Specials & Support Services

Speech and Language:

  • Most of the students at FSIS need language support of one kind or another. As English is the second language of over 90% of our students, most maintain poor vocabulary and morphological skills.
  • Some of our students display a more specific language disability, such as developmental language delay, language processing difficulty, dyslexia, stuttering, or articulation difficulty.

In the Elementary department, the speech and language pathologist works with the classroom teacher providing support for the language skills in which students demonstrate weaknesses. By working as a team, the teacher can incorporate speech and language techniques or strategies into his / her daily lessons to encourage transfer and generalization of newly learned skills.

FSIS also provides small group or individual therapy when recommended by the classroom teacher, especially for middle school or high school students, to address specific student’s needs.
